JANUARY

Proud to have been voted for second time VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR by the members of the Confederation for Working Equitation! Thank you to all that chose me. It's a great reward to all the time, passion and dedication I devoted to that association and the sport

JANUARY

The year has started with the usual excitement of the season in Florida, but probably the most important one is taking over the coaching of David Botana, Grade I Para Rider. Susanne Hamilton is going for her "S" Judge License and the Judge's Forums are scheduled exactly at the same with the two CPEDIs planned for the Florida Winter Season.

WHAT A MONTH! - Palm Beach Dressage Derby - Did the usual Photo Report and had tons of fun following competitors and attendees - USEF Para-Equestrian Dressage Coach Certificate Program - A day full of theory by Michel Assouline and the second day a practical evaluation with Debbie McDonald, Charlotte Bredahl and Michel Assouline - CPEDI 3* with David Botana - David and Locksley were named in the USA Team and they had absolutely awesome performances over 70% every day! USA Team won and David got second place in all classes, behind Roxanne Trunnel, WEG medalist. - Challenge of the Americas - Enjoyed a lot following and taking pictures of Team Winged Foot for this great cause - NATIONS CUP CDIO 3* with COLOMBIAN TEAM - Very grateful with my dear student Sophia for letting me ride her mare Welly back into the CDI ring and no better opportunity than representing my beloved Colombia in Nations Cup with Marco Bernal, Maria Alejandra Aponte and Raul Corchuelo. Sue Jaccoma was my eyes on the ground and Shannon Dueck was Chef d'Equipe and National Coach. Emily and Sophia took great care of Welly and I had so much fun! Please check on the page I dedicated to it by clicking here - Schooling Show with Bobo - first time that I'm able to coach her at a show, after so many years of working together. It was a really good decision as we set conditions for future successes - New clients coming to work with me. So happy to have received this email:

"Dear Carmen,

Michel and I would like to thank you for your interest in Para and participating in the USEF Para Dressage Coach Program. It was a pleasure working with you! Michel has reviewed your exam and provided feedback in the attached document. (Hover over yellow boxes to see comments).

In consultation with the assessors, Debbie McDonald and Charlotte Bredahl, Michel would like to congratulate you on exceeding expectations in your theoretical exam, and places you in the level of Silver Para Dressage Coach. Your name, city, and state will be listed in the USEF Para Dressage Coach Directory, which will be posted early next week on the USEF Para Dressage page. MAY 10, 11, 12 CLINIC AT HORSES UNLIMITED IN NEW MEXICO

Had a great time teaching my fist clinic at Horses Unlimited in Albuquerque, New Mexico, despite the very cold temperatures we had the first two days. It was very rewarding to see how horses and riders improved over the days. Very nice to see also that there is a clear system to develop the horses they breed into the sport. Here is a link to an album I posted on my Facebook page.

RAIN GO AWAY!

June 15-16: Two more wins for Sophia and Welly in Fourth Level at the Gold Coast Summer Solstice show held at the Palm Beach Equine Sports Complex!!! A bit rainy the first day...

CLINIC HORSES UNLIMITED

JUNE 21-23 Had another clinic at Horses Unlimited in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Traveling was an absolute nightmare but couldn't be happier with how horses and riders performed. Looking forward to the next one in August!. Picture is from my drive from Phoenix to Albuquerque as I couldn't get there by plane....

JULY

We had a fantastic weekend at the White Fences Summer Fun II show held at the White Fences Equestrian Center on July 6-7. BP did two very amazing tests in 4-3 scoring up to 69%. Two blue ribbons but we were the only ones in each class. Amazing feel of getting a horse prepared and receiving all he had. Thank you to the whole village! The gratitude towards each one of you is immense.... Sophia did two super rides on Welly in 4-2, showing more and more maturity. Slowly turning into a small tour combination! Emily did her first show debuting also San Quinta in dressage. Did First level test 1 and 2 with scores up to 68%. Unbelievable to see them! Go to San Quinta's page for more information, pictures and videos (click here) A special THANK YOU to Sue Jaccoma, Judith Cardella and Evan Hubner who helped with Emily's show attire! And King competed L Patron HU and Wruby Noon HU for the first time in Florida. Both horses were a joy to work with, scores were conservative as the rides, since we didn't know them much. Can't wait to see them develop more and more!.

WINTER R.I.P.

Our dear Winter had a severe colic and went into surgery at Palm Beach Equine Clinic in Wellington on Saturday, July 27. So far surgery was successful even though surgeons said it was a very difficult case. Sadly complications with Laminitis are keeping him in the clinic. Please help us with sending him good energy, prayers and positive thoughts. Our heartfelt THANK YOU to Kim Jackson, Dr. Jee Grewal and Jessica, to Dr. Michael Myhre, Dr. Weston Davis, Dr. Byan Dubynsky and to all the interns and staff that have given Winter all the best care possible.

Update: Winter made it back to May Faire Oaks farm, despite complications with laminitis, and we were happy with his little but consistent improvements. Sadly on the morning of September 10, he wasn't feeling right and we rushed him to the clinic where we were able to get him comfortable but we had to make the very hard and sad decision to let him go. It was fair to him... I'm very touched with how good he was treated by everyone in Palm Beach Equine Clinic, by Sophia's family that went above and beyond to try to help him and with Kim and everyone at May Faire Oaks farm. Thank you to all of you that cared!

CLINIC WITH LAUREN

Reconnected with my student for many years Lauren Friedland who moved to Connecticut some time ago. They invited me for a fantastic weekend there, where we had the pleasure to work together again and do some tourist activities. Thank you so much Deirdre and Lauren! Great job with Ted!

CLINIC HORSES UNLIMITED

Last weekend of August I had another fun and productive clinic in Albuquerque. Everybody made improvements and it's always nice to see the positive effect made on horses and riders. Looking forward to one more at the beginning of October! Maybe one day Pool Noodle HU will be ready for one of my clinics! We had time to play tourists and went to the Sandia Peak, AMAZING!

WHITE FENCES SUMMER FUN III & IV SHOWS - SEPT 14-15

Sophia stayed on track after a very tough and sad week with the loss of our dear Winter, she produced two very solid rides and even won her 4-3 class! King presented again Wruby Noon Hu and L Patron HU in 1-3 and there were big improvements with their performances. I'm so happy! Thank you to the village!

COACHING IN COLORADO

Oh how lucky we were to dodge the bullet again (as it happened with Matthew and Irma) to be missed by a major hurricane. Dorian was headed our way as a powerful Cat 5 storm and turned north on the coast of Florida after destroying big part of the Bahamas. We had decided to stay in the area, had a good plan in place to move to safer barns (thanks to very generous neighbors) and we were glad we didn't have to do any major changes, besides picking up and putting everything back in place....

Went for the first time to the Colorado Horse Park in Parker, CO, to coach Anne Sparks and Cecilia Cox at the show. They had really good rides and it was very good for me to see them performing. Thank you for the trust in my system!

OCTOBER

Our last clinic of the year at Horses Unlimited was held the weekend of October 4-6. Very proud of the results and very grateful with all the participants and specially Anne for hosting me. What a great time we had as it was International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque!

Look what arrived in the mail! Proud of this achievement and hope to be able to keep learning from this fascinating part of our sport and give back. Thanks to Michel Assouline and Laureen Johnson for all the help, encouragement, guidance and support.

MASTER CLASS WITH ISABELL WERTH

I am very lucky to have been able to attend, for the second time this year, a Master Class with the Queen!

But this one was even more special than the first one as it was held at Haras Hacienda and I got the honor to be able to help them during the weekend.

Will never forget this experience! Please click below to read the articles published in Spanish in Lily Forado's website and in English in Dressage-News. There is also a link to an album with pictures
